Lockdown Readings and Moral Stories
-Aman Ajoy Dutta, Class-III, Sec-C, Roll No-9
Dear friends, during this lockdown we have found ample opportunities to explore the world through the internet and books. Great man says, book is the best friend in life. It opens up new windows to the world of knowledge. Similarly in this digital age, internet is providing many ways for learning. As we all know that we cannot read all the books available in the library or explore all the resources on the internet. A good librarian can guide us to the most suitable books for us as per our age. Similarly at home, our parents can help us in selecting suitable resources from the internet with guidance from our teachers.
As we all know, Moral Values are very important in life. Moral's from different stories help us to learn new lessons. Today friends, I would like to share few morals from the stories I read during this summer vacation.
The first story was about a King who wanted to go long distances frequently and got hurt because the roads were rough and stony. He thought that he has a solution for it. At first, he ordered his people to cover every road with leather. But one of his wise servant gave him a bright idea to create 'shoes' to cover your feet, instead. The moral of the story is- To make this world a happy place to live, you better change yourself.
The second story was about a Tree and two men. On a hot day two men were walking along. At noon it became too hot to go any further. They saw a large tree nearby and they rested below the shade of the tree and one man said to the other that, it is a useless tree because it does not have a fruit. Hearing him, the tree said, my dear, don't be so ungrateful because I am shielding you from the hot sun. The Moral of the story- All God's creation has a good purpose.
The Third story was about a Milkmaid. One day the Milkmaid was going to the market taking a jug of milk at top of her head, she began to dream of all the things she could do after selling the milk. Like, at first she will buy a hundred chicken when they are grown up, she will sell them and again buy a goat, raise it and sell to buy a cow! During her day-dreaming, she was so happy that she jumped and all milk felled down. The Moral of the story- Do not count your chickens before they are hatched.
The Fourth story was about a 'Devoted Mother'. A Mother Duck and her little ducklings were on their way to the lake, the ducklings were very happy that day. Suddenly the mother duck saw a fox nearby, she was frightened and shouted children hurry to the lake, giving warning about the fox! Smelling the danger, the mother duck wondered what to do! She began to walk back, forth dragging one wing on the ground, when the fox saw her, and became happy and thought it seems the duck was hurt and can't fly. The fox ran towards her but she escaped and flew towards the water, giving safe passage to the ducklings. The Moral of the story- Mother loves you the most and can do anything to safeguard us and Presence of Mind is very important in scary situations.
The Fifth story was about 'True Wealth'. One day a father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the purpose to show him how poor people lives and so he need to be thankful for this wealth. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of a poor cultivator. On their return, the father asked his son how was the trip? The son told that it was great and he was very happy to learnt about lot of difference between poor and rich. Hearing that, boy's father was speechless. The Moral of the story- Every family has advantages and limitations, but we should learn to be happy in every situation and try to progress ourselves.
The Sixth story was about 'Butterfly and Cocoon'. A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared; he sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that tiny hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared it could go no further. The man decided to help the butterfly so he cut a bit of cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily but it had a swollen and small body, shriveled wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly that its wings will expand. But it never happened and it never flew. The Moral of the story- Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If nature allowed us to go through life without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as we could have been and could never fly.
The Seventh story was about 'the Wolf in sheep's clothing'. A wolf found great difficulty in getting at the sheep owing to the vigilance of the shepherd and his dogs. But one day it found a skin of a sheep that had been thrown aside, so it put on his own body and got down among the sheep. The lamb that belonged to the sheep, whose skin the Wolf was wearing, began to follow the Sheep and Wolf finally killed her and enjoyed a hearty meal. The Moral of the story- Appearances are deceptive, we should be careful in every step of our life.
The Eighth story was about the 'Existence of God'. A man who went to a barbershop to have his hair and his beard cut. He started to have a good conversation with the barber about many subjects. Suddenly they got to the subject of God. The barber said that I don't believe that God exists, Then the man said why do you say that? Barber said that, it's too easy you just have to go to the street. If God existed there would be neither suffering nor pain. The client stopped for a moment and thought if he should respond to the answer or it will be an argument. The barber finished his job and the man went out of the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long hair and a beard. Then the man went back to the barbershop and he said that in this world actually Barbers do not exist! The barber said angrily, how do barber not exist, well I'm a barber. No! the man exclaimed. 'They don't exist because if they did, there would no people with long hair and beard like the man that walks in the street'!! The Moral of the story- You can not challenge existence of something using a mere example, stories has many folds too. People should try to find the solution providers, rather than complaining about life's much pain and sufferings.
The Ninth story was about 'Words and actions'. There was a little boy who loved eating sweets. He always cries for sweets. His father was a poor man. He could not always afford sweets all the time. Once, the boy's father got an idea, he decided to take him to a very holy man nearby who might be able to persuade him. They went to the Saint and asked him to persuade him to not ask for sweets daily. The Saint asked them to come after a month. During that month the holy man have given up his love for eating sweets. Then on their next visit, the Saint told the boy not to ask for sweets daily and boy agreed. The father asked the Saint, why didn't he told him earlier? Then the Saint explained him that last month he loved sweets himself. The Moral of the story- Always make sure that your actions and your words are same.
The Tenth story was about 'a little boy'. A little boy with his donkey carrying two stacks of wheat was on his way to the market. After a little time, he got tired and rested under a tree. When he woke up from his nap, he could not see his donkey, but he looked around! He saw amazing view around him. The flowers, plants, blue sky and saw a group of School children coming from school cheering! He then realized that, daily he was so busy only with his donkey that he had forgot to look around, how the world is beautiful and progressing. Then he decided that, he will ask his father today to admit him to school, instead of involving him with the donkey. He realized that he can live a cheerful life like the other school children and can lead to a better life. Moral of the story- Some times we should take rest from our daily habits and take time time to find new opportunities of life. Anything may inspire us to take a U-turn in life to do better and live better.
